Month 4 Extra Test
For those who have taken the board visualisation tecnique course seriously you should be able to work out my next move in this game I played tonight without a board.
My opponent was 1815 rated. To those who (like me) cheated at this part of the course then it may be a bit trickier.
1 d4 e6 2 c4 Nf6 3 Nc3 d5 4 Bf4 b6 5 cxd5 Nxd5 6 Nxd5 Qxd5 7 Bxc7 ... What did I play?
Please don't post answer and ruin it for others!

Rem : there is a spoiler function on the forum, you can use it to post a hidden answer, but visible for those who have already answered and want to compare their response.
Type (without the spaces of course) :
[ spoiler ] my response [ / spoiler ]
I think i'm in the pool of those who do not put total dedication to this lesson... :-/
Anyway here is my answer, it took me about 20 minutes to answer.
I write it while thinking, so you get my ideas in real time, and i did not use any help (no empty board, no paper, or things like that).

- Spoiler:
- The opening is played out of the book so it is quite easy to follow till move 4, but the massive exchange that follow give me a headache.
- The first thing i see is Na5, escape for the knight and threaten the bishop on c7.
- Then i remember about the center, i think the d4 pawn is still there, with black queen behind.
- Oups, i remember b6 pawn is advanced, so i figure out rook and queen are on the same diagonal and can be forked by a bishop, but i don't think white light square bishop is able to come.
- After that there are the queen moves on the 'a' file to give checks for both side i think.
- So you can play Qa5+, the only possibilities are interposing the knight or the queen.
- The knight is not possible because white will then loose is d4 pawn.
- Eureka i think i have found, e6 is advanced so you can give check with Bb4+ too ! and Nd2 is forced, loosing the d4 pawn.

Re: Month 4 Extra Test
I did it over the board, far more easy while seeing :-)
Blindfold is very hard.
- Spoiler:
For some reason i completely forgot that the knight has already disappear, thus Bb4+ is definitely gaining white queen.
I found the good move, but made a visualization mistake.
Blindfold is very hard.

Re: Month 4 Extra Test
thanks for doing this. Although it is a relatively simple example, I think it gives us an insight as to how much we visualise ang how good we are at visualising the whole board after a complex calculation. It is this second part that I am especially weak at. If we believe the theory of the course then months 10-13 will hopefully help

Also thanks for the comment on the spoiler function. I'll see whether everyone agrees your solution!

Re: Month 4 Extra Test
i haven't started this type of training yet since i'm in month 1 but here is my solution after thinking about 10 mins and seeing the position relatively ok
hope with the training i can see the position better and in less time
- Spoiler:
- i thought that with the darksquares bishop out of the way it must be good to check with my dark square bishop on b4, of course it took me a while to discover that the white king has no escape route and in fact i was winning a queen
hope with the training i can see the position better and in less time
