New type of courses
Hi,
I didn't see any mention of it on the boards (if there is, please be so kind to direct me to it), but on my account (I have finished full first 13 months) I get offered two new types of courses:
"What Really Matters"
"Pawn Structures"
Does anyone else have that and, ideally, has anyone subscribed to either and give a reaction on it?
Thanks in advance,
P.

Re: New type of courses
Thanks. I obviously read through this topic, but couldn't find any info on e.g. 'What Really Matters', the incremental rating games they offer each month.Blue Devil Knight wrote:https://icsdiscussion.forumotion.net/t237-ics-new-course-plans-two-more-years-of-material-added
Has anyone subscribed to that one?

Re: New type of courses
Oh, sorry I thought you meant second year. Not much discussion of year 3 yet!

Are the two courses I mentioned from year 3?Blue Devil Knight wrote:Oh, sorry I thought you meant second year. Not much discussion of year 3 yet!
Strange, I just finished year 1, and that is what they offered me...

Re: New type of courses
Pawn Structures is year 2.
So far I've received the first four months of year two. I find the quality to be very good, I see a dramatic improvement in the videos over year 1 (maybe I can follow the discussion better )
The organization is by openings, some I play, some not. It is comforting to receive the detailed exposure to the various openings and I think it will provide a solid basis to diverge from the ICS opening repertoire at some point in the future.

A year on pawn structures?!
Why do I find that absurd!?

I suppose it does sound trivial.
In fairness to the authors year two is a logical progression in pawn play studies.
The progression in year 1 starts with elemenary pawn structures and progresses through dynamic pawn play in the centre. Year two focus is on pawn play characteristic to the various opening systems in context to the whole game and much comment on endgames.

Re: New type of courses
I agree that year 2 seems out of place in the sequence.
In fact the website states somewhere that it is intended for players over 2000. So why does it come second in the sequence?
I think they acknowledge this and I think that you are able to choose the so-called Year 3 as an independant course. In other words, if you want to subscribe to the "What really matters" course, you can do that in your year 2 of studies. I haven't tried that yet but I think you can select that course before the pawn structures course.
