Started playing the orangutan (1 b4)
Avoid theory, have fun.
So far, it's really fun. Beginners get destroyed fast, usually, they have absolutely no idea what to do. When black knows what he is doing you get a decent even middlegame. Can't ask for much more in an opening.
Anyone here ever use it?

Re: Started playing the orangutan (1 b4)
I'll post a game or two when I get time. Note I have done zero study of the opening so far. I'm just playing it and making moves that seem natural. Then, when I get the book and database fired up, I'll have questions and problems from my games that hopefully they will answer. I find this better than just jumping in with the theory before I've mucked about in the trenches first.

I thought that was called the Polish opening. I've faced it a few times and I must admit the first time I did, I got smashed because I had no idea what to do.

What continuation do you tip ?
After your post, I tried a couple of games with b4 -> b5 -> a4 that give some huge space on the queenside, and i open the center with c4 but that does not seem to give transcendental advantage so far.
Maybe b4 -> c3 is better, don't know. I did not go for it since it seems to block a little dark square bishop.
As you know i'm not focused on a particular opening, i like to give a try to many of them, so why not b4, look forward to see some games of yours.

I always go 1b4 , 2 Bb2, and then I take it from there.
