Just started ICS

Hello all! I've been playing on and off chess for years. What is the best way to find out my rating? Also, is there an order to do the monthly ICS courses? Thanks!

To get a rating you need to play either on-line or at rated games at your chess club or a tournament.

There's no prescribed order to the course material, just spread it out over the month.

Thank you for the quick response! One more question...Is the 1st test suppose to be taken before I study the other 1st month material, or after? I'm not sure if ICS is wanting to know where I'm at now or after the 1st month.

The test is for your self-assessment. It's for experienced players so most do poorly. You can try it right away - I just saved it for practice material.

I believe I will do as you and use it for practice. Thanks!

Welcome aboard Joyfulman! Hope you enjoy your stay here :] I suggest signing up for your country's chess association and start getting in some rated games!

If you can, join a club and play over the board. You will soon get a rating, but don't become obsessed by ratings...the strong players always advise you to focus on the quality of your games...the rating will follow in due course
