Internal tournament
Hi,
What do you think about a small internal tournament??
One game/week and all games posted here with both comments should be a good way to learn. Of course, the games should be analyzed on ICS way too, to see the TODO list of player, what is missing....

Re: Internal tournament
That's a really good idea, I wonder if we have enough people to do it? There are some great players here (not including me of course, I'm probably the worst :O)
Re: Internal tournament
Hmmm, i rather see it played on gameknot or chess.com with x days per move since my week is already to full to play a game somewhere in the week. Heck, finding the time to analyse would be even worse. Must admit i dont use the to do list and such right now when i am playing.

Good idea I am in. I think it would be as chesstiger says, don't forget we are from all over the world.

Re: Internal tournament
Just tell which website to join in.
Also i have an account on RedHotPawn/ChessAtWork which has long games too.
I like this site because, there is a systray tool, which change color when your opponent has played his move. So you don't have to go to the website continuously to check your games.
But unfortunately i cannot create a private tournament there with the free account.
It is possible to play games for free, with free subscribers like you and me, but the tournament management has to be done manually on paper... ;-/
What is possible on chess.com and gameknot ?
Does anyone has ooportunity to create a private tournament on these websites ?

Re: Internal tournament
I suggest a rythm of 1 day per move + additionnal timebank of 21 days.
Of course if 2 players are online at the same time they can play multiple moves on the same day.
Personnally i prefer this to 3 days per move with 7 days timebank for example, because this latter formula can last very very long time (months...) if one player is really slow, and if you go on hollidays your game is over.
1 day per move allows to keep a certain rythm in the play and large enough timebank allows absences, forget to play, and vacations. I'm more ok to raise the timebank than the days per move.

3 days per move with no timebank.
Offcourse if one goes on holliday one can/may set vacationtime.
If less then i cannot play since i am away in the weekend and dont have access to the internet.

Re: Internal tournament
I think "isolated" games would suit us better than an organized tournament. We have different needs and very different available times to play, so it would be better if the time control were agreed between the two players (and each set of two player can set whatever time control suits them better).
I personally have time to play some 30'+0' or 20' + 10' games during the week / weekend, and I prefer this kind of game because we get more analysis material in a shorter amount of time. If anyone's down, let me know.
In any case, completed games are to be posted here for ICS-analysis, preferably with important CQS and TODO lists by the players themselves.

Re: Internal tournament
Well anyway internal tournament will never happen, we are not really motivated to do it, and levels are too much heterogenous i guess to really enjoy it.

Yes, I suspect it would be quite difficult to organise as well.

Re: Internal tournament
Well, after reading some pesimistic posts about the internal tournament, I created a private tournament on this site: www.chess-mail.com You only have to register and before join the tournament you must play 20 moves. The tournament is in the section about tournaments, look for ICS tournament and the password to join is BDK as the way to honour the creator of this wonderful forum. It starts on the second of september. Only 9 players are allowed, if more players whish to play we create new tournaments as needed. At the beggining every player is given 5 days to end the game plus 36 hours per move, being the capital time no higher than 20 days. Join!!!!!!!

Re: Internal tournament
Thanks HangingKing to make the path clearer. If Chess? join we only need six players. If somebody is worried about the duration of the game, don't be as I started to play last weekend and yesterday I finished my first game, 5 days to do 25 moves, it depends on the players are connected at the same time. The todo list and csq are easier to create and follow. Don't hesitate, JOIN.

Follow this link http://www.chess-mail.com/viewerpgn.php?psa=tweety&psb=amaya&datep=2010.08.07 to see the game above mentioned. The fight is about the f5 square. White wanted to push its pawn there but black didn't allow it, then the white queen gave away several tempo and .... black won.

How does one play twenty moves if one cannot start a game of chess?

Re: Internal tournament
After registering, you can play a match against anyone, there it is where you do 20 moves, you can play more than one game, making it shorter to get the 20 moves.
Sorry but I can't answer your second question unless we say it here.

Maybe you don't need to play 20 moves to join a Perso tournament like this one, can anyone confirm this?

is it under Running Tournaments? or is it on the left under tournaments?

. Fast Games
. Level 0
. Level 1
. Level 2
. Level 3
. Level 4
