What would you play ?
Let's try a new topic, i propose one post a chess position that preferably occured during one his game, and he faced a critical choice.
The idea is to tell what you would play (in short, 1 or a few moves) so we can gain new ideas from each others.
Of course, I do not search for the "best" move, i have Rybka or Fritz for that, i'm interested in the continuation ideas at my (your) level.
Let's begin with a very simple example that happened in an endgame, material is equal, but i felt i was under pressure, so i did push a4 and after Bxh4 i went for the perpetual check in the corner.
Anyway Bxc3 is also possible, and worst for me.
What would you play if you were white.

Re: What would you play ?
In my opinion for what it's worth Black is clearly better!
Better bishop vs knight, better pawn structure, further advanced passed pawn not to mention the nasty pin on the knight.
If White was to exchange queens or even more it really would benefit Black.
I think a draw in this type of position is a good result and your idea with perpetual check even it seems like a dirty little tools is a good idea! Again, in my non-professional opinion.

Re: What would you play ?
Tend to prefer black too. How I would continue would probably depend on match tournament situation. I would approach the position as discussed in month 1. After tis I concluded:
Positionally
Black seems better due to
- passed pawn supported by rook
- and opportunity to obstruct whites knight with g6 effectively playing a Bishop up supporting better Bishop than Knight comment of Fanat. The remainder of the pawn structure whilst favouring black is probably irrelevant for the outcome of the game.
Tactically-
White needs to get knight to d6 with mating & forking threats. Black has no significant tactical shots.
For white
If I had to play for a win with white I would go Nf5 hoping to plant it on d6. Both of these lose to Be5 followed by g6.(probably better still Re5 immediately but the bishop is simpler).
If looking for a draw I'd hope for the same swindle that you achieved.
Were I playing black I would probably not have hesitated after your a4 with g6 then a Bishop(or again even Rook move - to e5, The to do would then to push the e pawn and pick up a point.
I do not have Rybka and have not Fritzed either. But I do look forward to Fritz telling me I'm wrong & it is a forced win for white!!

Re: What would you play ?
1. if white to move :: ( u will win, otherwise, u will draw )
1. Qd1+ Kc3 2. Ne2+ .. and continue
2. Qd3+ Ka4
3. Qd3+ Kb4 .. continue .
Baiscally king will move out 3rd line to 4th line then u can eat two pawns and can win. I am unable to post the complete variations which are sure mate, since I am writing this from office.

And if 1... Ka3?
I'd have to use an engine to solve this.

mmm, then it is very easy, the main intention is to make the king disappear from ROW-3 so that atleast u can eat a pwn with your QUEEN, and take the next pawn very easily whatever king movies.
1. ...Ka3 , Qd3+ .. then king has to leave row 3. ... then give continuous check to queen till you reach pawns and immediately eat one pawn, if other pawn pushes anyway u can eat that away like a hungry tiger...

Re: What would you play ?
I don't think it's that easy. After Qd1, Ka3, Qd3, Kb4 any queen check can be met with either Ka3 or Kb3, both of which defend both pawns.
