Month 4 Visualisation
ROFLMAO!!!!! Looks like I have to start with blindfold immediately, not just dream about it. It is going to take me days to do each one of these! This training cannot be hurried up, so be patient and solve no more than 1 set of exercises
in 2-3 days. Your mind needs time to “visualize” the board; you cannot do it overnight.
Every set of exercises takes only a few minutes per day and it is very important for your
calculation skills.
...
In the following exercises, we start from the initial position and indicate a series of
moves. Then, find the winning move for the player who is to move.
...
Day 13)
- 1.Nf3 c5 2.c4 g6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Bg7 5.e4 Nf6 6.Nc3 0–0 7.Be2 b6
- 1.d4 Nf6 2.Nf3 c5 3.d5 b5 4.Bg5 Qa5+ 5.c3 Ne4 6.Bh4 Bb7 7.e3 e6 8.dxe6 dxe6
9.Bxb5+ Qxb5
- 1.c4 f5 2.Nc3 Nf6 3.g3 g6 4.Bg2 Bg7 5.d3 d6 6.e4 Nc6 7.h4 e5 8.h5 Be6 9.Nd5
Qd7
- 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 3.Nc3 Bb4 4.Qb3 c5 5.dxc5 Nc6 6.Bg5 h6 7.Bxf6 Qxf6 8.Nf3
b6 9.cxb6 axb6 10.e3 … (Black’s move is spectacular!)
I hope I am ready for it!
Wish me luck?!

Re: Month 4 Visualisation
I'm working through the Board Visualisation exercise for Month 4, and Day 7 onwards features short games from the opening position. What I'm not clear on is whether to start with the initial position set up in front of me (and not move the pieces) or to work without sight of a board?

Without sight of a board. I am sure about that.

Thanks for your comment. Anyone else to comment, surely there must be people on here that have gone through this material?
I was feeling that it was quite a big jump playing without sight of the board to go from considering a few pieces to a full set plus a game score.

Re: Month 4 Visualisation
OK, for one or two positions in Day 7 and 8 I had to start with the board in front of me, but I tried later problems without sight of the board. I did get almost all of them but only just. For me, it was a matter of noting which pawns had moved and their final positions, followed by the pieces, just before the critical position. It would take several tries and looking at the moves before I would essay a solution. It wasn't the case where all the board was in sharp focus in my mind, just piecing together blurry scraps of individual piece/pawn placement and checking open files/diagonals.
Anyway, I've just downloaded month 5 material and there's no board visualisation exercises - does month 4 mark the end of these exercises?

Yes - thats the last of them.
As to your original question, my suggestion is to keep trying. The visualizations are difficult for me too, but the more you do it, the easier it gets.
