So you don't recommend buying the openings module?
Hi, I'm new to the website and I have decided to purchase the main module, but I'm not sure whether it's a good idea to buy the openings module or not.
On going through this website I got the feeling that it's not such a good idea to buy the openings module: that it'll prove more distractive than beneficial.
Is that a correct feeling? Or do you recommend getting the two together?
Thanks!

Re: So you don't recommend buying the openings module?
Hi! I started four months ago both modules. My point of view regarding to the opening module is that it is good, but I am only concentrated on the main one so far. Openings can wait until I have more time to spend on them. The lines they give are good enough to get you into a playable middle game, some of them were already on my repertoire. Nevertheless I am not going to use all the openings they recommend, for instance, I keep playing the caro kann instead of scandinavian although I may use it from time to time. But if you are looking for lines that make you win in the opening this module is not for you. Now it is your decision!!!!!!!!!

I would recommend waiting until you are two months in with the main module, and then decide if you need more chess to work on

I joined only the main module and not the opening module.
I think they are independant, since i did not see any reference to the opening module in the main course. Maybe i will subscribe to it later, but you can progress for sure with only the main course.

Thanks guys!
I am building a decent opening repertoire on my own, so I decided to buy only the main module, at least for now.
Thanks for the advice!

Having just completed the course:
1) I don't recomment the openings module.
2) Keep your openings simple if you want to take advantage of the rest of the course. (I don't for example think their recommended Moscow fits well with the course). A simple QGD or Nimzo would fit better but their Catalan (or a queens Gambit exchange) fits well.
3) Don't spend a lot of time on Openings. I reckon that my losses are 10% Opening 5% endgame and 85% middle game(of which I split roughly 60% tactical blunders, 25% outplayed positionally).

I would like to digest the main module prior to go deeper in the openning module

Re: So you don't recommend buying the openings module?
I got both modules, but I am going to ignore the openings module unless I have 'idle time'.
At the very worst, I can start the openings module after completion of the entire main module, giving me 2 years of study.
I'm never enthusiastic about studying openings though, they almost always involve memorising a billion variations which I never manage to do. Thankfully, I seem to do ok in the opening, so it's not tooooo bad that I fail at remembering the variations.
