Should I be taking notes from the Initial 8 Annotated games? Empty Should I be taking notes from the Initial 8 Annotated games?

I like to take notes, just summary notes of the content of what I am learning, like an overview of the content. Later, I review the overview and if there is something there I can't remember I can then re-study that area.

There are some good notes in the annotated games, such as 5 principles for attacking a king stuck in the centre. My question is should I be taking those notes now or will they be repeated during the theory content?

Thanks for your time :-)

It might be helpful, especially if you then write them for us as a post for this forum cyclops

I did that for almost every theory article in month one and posted them in the month one section here. It was helpful because it forced me to clarify what they were saying, and I now have a record in my own words of the material. While I suck at chess compared to the authors of this work, I am a much better writer in English Smile

I'll consolidate them once I have made it through the theory and try to remember to post it up here... or wherever is most appropriate.

I just wanted it so that I could revise what I have learned. If I remember the content, good, if not, I can go back to the right place and re-study it.

Summary notes is a great way to learn. Back in my college days I'd do the notes, but once done found I never really had to go back - I memorized them simply in the making. If you've only found those general principles in some game notes I suspect there are quite a few buried gems in the course materials - Thanks for the heads-up!

So far I'm just making notes in the printed lesson plan margins, then in games I'm trying to make notes in the game scores in the computer database using the verbose narative that the authors suggest, i.e. CQS & TO DO LISTS

I shouldn't burn out... my notes are not really notes, but structured titles of the content... virtually no elaborations on titles only. If I can't remember the content of the title, I can just go back to that part of the study.

I just got month 2 and started working through the material today.

I've decided to do the Tactical stuff at the board and just annotate the printed material with any comments to myself.

From what I've seen, the notes in the positional matierial is just a game summary, and the student is expected do do detailed annotations from the guidance in the section header.

For the positional material I anticipate going over the games several times as I become more familiar with the principles, so I'm opening/entering games into my database software and entering my comments on moves with checklists (for both tactical and positional situations) in hand as I go over the games. Basically, I go through the whole game quickly, then go back and annotate the point where the principles kick in or where it appears that a plan is initiated.

I don't print the material, but I probably should. I just have a laptop set up next to my board and I have a Word document for annotations and such, which is turning into a course outline.
