Breaking the ice (berg?) Empty Breaking the ice (berg?)

Post by KasparovIsGod May 18th 2009, 5:36 am

I am not sure if the phrase 'breaking the ice' is too politically incorrect in today's age of global warming and petty accusations of insensitivity towards fellow humans and gaia alike..so I am gonna refrain from any more of that reference!
Bah..as we see I am a fan of Kasparov..well when I was asked once about 'Who is the best human chess player?' by a chess correspondent of the 'Battle Creek Enquirer' (bless his soul as he thought I was worth interviewing!) I was prompt in my reply. Vladimir Kramnik!. Perplexed he wondered if I was stoned or just mildly inebriated (this was after I'd just won a chess trophy so I was pretty much the most 'eccentric' guy in the room ), but he politely mentioned "what about Kasparov then? surely you don't think his achievements are worthless.."..I replied -"oh I thought you asked about the best human chess player...cuz Garry Kasparov is a 'God'. and that is how my handle originated!
............I got into this game watching the likes of Kasparov and Topalov and was deeply impressed by their style. Of course I also admire players like Kramnik, Botvinnik, Fischer and Capablanca. I just got back into chess recently and though I am not quite good or regular at the game (still under 1900 USCF), I intend to rectify that pretty soon. A structured approach to the game is what I need, I guess. Internet ratings don't amount to much so we won't even go into that since at the end of the day your OTB skills count..regardless of whether you are 2400 on the net or 400!

Welcome on board. You seem to be in the same boat as a number of us stopped for a while & returning.
Best of Luck.
