I've gone ahead and done my own brief analysis of this week's game at the club. Although I won, I'm not terribly pleased with my performance. I think I had a great plan in the beginning of the game but was forced to play a move that only made things worse for me. The annotations in the game will explain everything.

Anyways. I hope you guys enjoy. I may run the game through Fritz to see what it has to say, who knows Razz

Very interesting... I would have most likely resigned on losing a rook... but you managed to come back and win, that was AWESOME! You should be very happy with that!

Re your note to move 4. This is the Berlin Defense to the Spanish Opening. There are some games and statistics on Chess Tempo that may be worth browsing a few minutes to get an idea on the various plans that have been used at the 2300+ levels.

You were in pretty good company all the way to Black's move 12, so I'd say you have a pretty good handle on opening play stategy.

Not such bad luck at move 18! I just got the new Komodo engine update released today and ran a couple of deep analysis positions and to my surprise 18. f4 rated higher that 18. g4. Overall, Komodo liked 18. Qd3 and f4 & g4 didn't even make the top 5 candidates.

This is an interesting position, white seems to have the edge in all variations, however, it would seem that Black could hold with a minimal commitment on the kingside and trying to get some counterplay with the queenside majority and the weak pawn on d4. But, White has the initiative and Black has the problems to solve.

Nice work!

I didn't even think of 18. Qd3! Wow! I'll have to keep an eye out for moves like that next time. Thanks for the comments PawnCustodian :]
