I ask because his English is perfectly good, though he may take 5 min to explain what a native English speaker could explain quicker. Also, I was curious as to his rating...which I could look up if I had a name.

Petre, Nad Titus.

You can look him up on the chess base player database. He is a 2400 level player with over 200 games in the mega database.

For what it's worth, his videos show a dramatic improvement in years two and three.

I'm anxiously waiting for the final 12 endgame videos for year two. I've listened to all of the others and they're great.

Is the endgame course worth it then?

Seems to me endgames are something that a good book would serve well for rather than a rather expensive study program...

The Endgame videos do offer some ideas and techniques that you don't see consolidated elsewhere.

The first videos set discusses Domination in the endgame. For the most part you don't see that covered in endgame books; the exception is "Domination in 2,545 Endgame Studies" which is the staple for many of the old Soviet school. This book is definitely at the top of any serious library. As you work the studies in this book you will quickly develop an "eye" of how the various piece combinations coordinate.

There are other videos that discuss techniques not addressed elsewhere, for example triangle patterns in Q+P endings. I think the videos are a good supplement for the books, but not a replacement for books.

While the videos offer an advanced looks at endgame play they cannot offer the comprehensive coverage of a good endgame library. Here Nunn's books are at the top of the pack; start with "Understanding Chess Endgames" then move on to "Nunn's Chess Endings" Volumes 1&2. If you are a glutton for endgames you can add his other "Secrets of... Rook, Minor-Piece, & Pawnless" books. For Pawn Endings my favorite is "Final Countdown" a small, but comprehensive study of pure pawn endgames.

Also, the endgame videos are a supplement to the Practical Lessons (annotated games) so there is some value there.

Sounds to me like I am better off continuing studying my two endgame books:

Silman's Complete Endgame Course (which is anything but complete)

and

Dvoretsky's Endgame Manual.

Both good. If you ever decide to add a book get "Domination". I find I get much more from solving the problems (which are very game-like) than playing over analysis.

I can solve as many endgame problems as I like at chesstempo.com. I need instruction!

Something in-between happens when I work with "Domination".

With textbooks I have a strong tendency to drift off into passivity, and on chesstempo.com the problems become an opium and I'm calculating without any direction. I've set up problem sets on CT, but too many are trivial or improperly tagged. Don't get me wrong, I use and enjoy both instructional books and chesstempo.com. Lately I been working strictly with an easy set of problems on chesstempo.com to try to rid myself of inattention errors (it's not working, but I still enjoy trying).

"Domination" is strictly about how pieces coordinate to trap an opponent piece or pieces. After each chapter introduction which describes the technique there follows a collection of problems that reinforce the techniques. Whenever I have worked with "Domination" my thinking changes, no longer am I thinking in terms of the individual pieces, but in terms of the squares, lines and diagonals on the chessboard.
