Blindfold thread

Hi, i tried my first semi-blindfold game today.

I call it semi-blindfold because i played it online with the graphical interface but with invisible pieces (so i still get the complete move list from the beginning, i can visualize the board, move invisible pieces with the mouse, see opponent start square and end square for a move, etc... but not the pieces).

This is more easy that true blindfold, but it is nevertheless quite hard.
I played against SlowFlo engine who is really weak normally (so you see he makes obvious blunders), but this level is enough for me blindfold.

I did choose an opening i know well, so i was a bit more secure, but at the end i was completely lost and i prefered to resign. Anyway i guess this is not too bad for a first shot, what do you think ?

That's a neat way to practice. I didn't know you could do that on ICC.

Cool! That is a good intermediary step between normal and blindfold. I hope one day to be able to play blindfold... even badly.

Usually i play with Blitz-in but it has no invisible set of pieces, yet Dasher has. You go to "Configuration / Board design" and you can create a new config with blindfold pieces.

Yeah, i think so too. Also with this technique, if it is too hard at first, i guess you can consider switch to normal pieces configuration let say every 10 moves, look at it for 30 s, and switch back to blindfold for the next 10 moves, etc...

I don't know yet if it is a good way to learn, but i'm just giving this a try :-)

Opening went well, after that it was a disaster with missing winning of queen and a rook and then throwing your pieces at your computer opponent.

But nevertheless it was a good exercise to see where you stand in blindfold play which will certainly help you improve in this kind of chess.

In fact i was thinking pawn was still in b7, so bishop normally protected by the rook in b1. Hence since the pawn is advanced, Bb7 is catastrophic.
Same for knight threatening rook, i forgot about the king's position because former move Kd7 is not natural and i was still expecting king in e8 or castled.

I will have to do dozen of games before one is decent :-)

Indeed BorgQueen, he is on the right path. Just need some (whole lot more) practise. Like we all do.
