Finding a game ? Empty Finding a game ?

Post by HangingKing March 24th 2010, 5:46 pm

Do you know some chess games repositories ?
Usually i go to www.chessgames.com but this time i cannot find the diagram below.

Finding a game ? F30dvcpwuqok

It comes from a tactical exercise
Spoiler:

It is referenced as Todorcevic - Zhin / France 1969, but i do not find the game in the database.
I'm interested in which sequence of opening moves lead to this, because it seems to be a guenuine position and not some handmade artificial exercise. But i need to check, maybe there was a horrible mistake in the opening.

I could only find 8 Todorcevic games from 1969, none of them against Zhin. Maybe the games is from a minor tournament, so it will be very difficult to find it. Try on french webs. Sorry I couldn't help you.

Yep. (it is indicated on this diagram by the white circle on bottom left corner).

No problem Tweety, it's not that important to find this game.
Can i know, which chess database you did use ?

Sure you can, I use the big database 2008 from Chessbase and I also found Todorcevic games from a web site www.365chess.com but I think the two of them have the same games. It happened something similar to me, when I tried to find a game from a CT Art problem and I couldn't, now almost every game is recorded but before the computer age most of the games ended inside a box in a dark, wet basement!!!!!

I think chessbase lite 9 free version only limitation is it will show you only 32000 games per database although the database has more than that. So, what you need to do like the following to split your database into 32000 chunks for examples the 1.7 million database, for this u can use SCID tool .. to open the database and analyze either with SCID or split that like the following into 32000 chunks.

1. Open the database in SCID ( if it is a PGN database )
2. Use the filter to display 1-32000 first.
3. then copy that stuff to clipboard
4. create new databaes
5. copy 32000 to new datbase save and close ( in PGN format )
6. Now clear the filter set the filter from 32001-64000 e t c.

So at the end of how ever the database is very big, you can divide using SCID... ( only PGN ) not CBH files.
